Installers on this page are ordered by the number of installations we have on record for them, then by customer rating. Paid installer memberships do not affect the order.
The installation records come from public utility and state solar program filings and from quotes homeowners upload to AgentSolar. We match each record to the installer named on it, so a company's count reflects work we can actually attribute to them, not a claim on their website.
Get at least three quotes and compare them per watt of solar capacity, not by the monthly payment. Every profile on this page shows what that installer has actually charged, which is a better reference than a national average.
Every profile linked above shows the installations we can attribute to that company from public records and homeowner uploads. A long track record in Massachusetts specifically matters more than a national brand name: permitting, utility interconnection and roofing norms are local, and a crew that has done hundreds of them here has already made the mistakes on someone else's roof.
Ask for the contractor license number and confirm it with the state licensing board yourself, and ask for a certificate of insurance that names you. Where we hold a license number for an installer it appears on their profile, but a number on a website is not the same as a current, active license.
Most quotes carry three separate warranties, and they are easy to conflate. The workmanship warranty covers the installer's own labor, including roof penetrations, and is only as good as the company standing behind it. The product warranty comes from the panel and inverter manufacturers and survives the installer going out of business. The production guarantee promises a minimum energy yield and usually has conditions attached. Get the length of each in writing.
Some companies sell the system and subcontract the installation. That is not automatically worse, but you should know who will be on your roof, who takes a warranty call in year five, and whether the workmanship warranty is the seller's or the subcontractor's.
With a cash or loan purchase you own the system, and the prices on this page are those purchases. With a lease or a power purchase agreement a third party owns it and you pay monthly for the equipment or the electricity. Compare the total cost over the contract term rather than the first monthly payment, and check what happens to the agreement if you sell the house.
Have a quote already? Upload it and see how it stacks up against 28,359 real Massachusetts installations — price, equipment and the fine print. No quote yet? We'll request them from vetted installers for you.
